2017 The Year of I AM

lao-tzu-new-beginnings-painful-endings-7e4p.jpg (1500×1500)Greetings beloveds,

What an eventful year we’ve had. For many it’s been painful, toxic, unrelenting, and not over soon enough. We are always learning, growing, moving forward even when it may appear that we are standing still. 2016 has been a momentous year for several reasons but here we will discuss the numerological significance of this year and of the one to come. But first a quick intro to numerology for those who are unfamiliar with this form of knowledge.

Numerology is the study of the metaphysical significance of numbers. As everything is made up of energy and has a vibrational frequency attached to it. Numbers play an important role in our lives from our birthday, age, address, phone-numbers, government identifiers. Numbers are everywhere in our lives and becoming attuned to what their presence means adds another tool to our divination toolkit. Here we’ll cover the basics of the significance of the number 9 and 1 for the years 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Numerology consists of the use of the single digit numbers 1-9 as every string of digits after that can be reduced to one digit. Thus 2016 (2+0+1+6) when added all together equals 9 making this a year that is associated with all of the attributes of the number 9. Most discussions surrounding 2016 as a 9 year have focused on 9 being the symbols of endings. The final lesson to be learned before reaching the next level of growth. These are not the only attributes associated with the number 9 though. First, 9’s are likened with all encompassing love and the selfless nature of being of service. 9’s are not so much an ending but more so that the knowledge contained within 1-8 has been learned and now it is time to pass this knowledge along. Many of us have had some hard earned lessons in love, relationships, self-worth, money, freedom and spirituality. The key to remember is that everyone is at some point in their journey and although this may be a 9 year we each have our own personal years which can be obtained through adding the digits of your current birthday together. For example someone born on 8-27-1979 would be in an 8 year in 2016 (this can be found by adding one’s birthday month (8), date (27) and current year of last birthday (2016). Not to mention the personal month numbers, destiny, life path, soul urge, and personality numbers that we experience as well, but that’s for another day. This explains why the overall energy would be of 9 but we each have our own very different experience in regards to this time. For some it has been a year of awakening, for others manifestation, some endings, and other beginnings. Overall though the energy of 9 affected our institutional and macro level dealings moving us towards being more compassionate, concerned with humanity and tolerant.

Now, I know many may be feeling like that can’t be what a 9 year is about because there’s been so much hate and violence across the board within the world. Yet, have you not found if you are reading this that you have been in a state of greater compassion towards the ills of the world? Feeling more connected to the world around you? Although it may be hard to see, the overall flow has been towards good even though there were many evils that occurred in our journey to get where we are today at a time for looking within ourselves and developing our power in order to withstand the next round of lessons that we will experience during 2017 a 1 year.

The number 1 represents not only new beginnings but new lessons to be learned, stories to be told, and most importantly development of our spiritual selves. 2017 will be a time of great independence. Striking out on our own meaning that one may pick career, life outlook, or have the courage to stand up to those who have oppressed you as you are filled with the energy of the creator which proclaims I AM. So in 2017 may you be able to take strength from what has happened and from what is to come. Stand firmly in your ability to not only survive but thrive. Claim who you are as whole and worthy for this will be a time of great possibility. Do not cower. Do not fear. 2017 will be the year of “I Am”.

New Moon in Capricorn

cosmobio.jpg (600×483)

Greetings beloveds!

Now, I don’t know about the rest of you but I LOVE Capricorns. They are focused, practical, grounded, and great at making/keeping plans. So I am very excited for this new moon in Capricorn. Not only will this give us a supportive framework upon which to put our lives back together  but also gives us the drive to complete the plans for all the things that we have been dreaming about completing over the last year.

This new moon we are being called to use the Capricorn energy to take account of our lives and begin being more methodical in our use of energy. This begs the question of where does your time go? Take a couple of minutes to figure out how much time you are giving to different activities. Does that schedule match what you desire your time to spent on? Are there areas where you can spend less time everyday in order to spend time moving, meditating or even watching your favorite show? It’s easier than it seems to fall into the habit of spending too much or not enough time on leisure activities or producing/work.

Balance is something that we all seek but the best gift you can give to yourself is to be easy with yourself. Find balance where you can and don’t punish yourself when you find yourself working 50 hours a week and not fixing dinner. If that happens take a look at where you could take some time to feed yourself and your family yummy nourishing food (that you might not even have to make). Can you meal prep? Delegate some cooking duties to others in the household? Or perhaps there needs to be some changes to your work schedule? Look through your schedule and see where you can balance some things out. Remember that balance requires us to give to ourselves just as much as we give to others. The energy that you are putting into each day should be weighed as evenly as possible.

What this requires is courage if you aren’t used to speaking up for yourself and making sure that your needs are met. Capricorn is a sign of conviction. They do their research and when they want something they know how to get it. So you better believe if anyone tries to question their plans they have the facts to back themselves up. Take a note from Capricorn here that the more knowledgeable you are about the plans that you make the more confidence you’ll have to move forward. Which speaks to another Capricorn trait that we can use during this time, long term vision. Capricorns have an uncanny ability to see precisely what needs to be done to achieve their goals. This allows them to make more efficient and effective plans that can actually come to fruition. So while you are taking account of your present use of time and your life include in your review what your future goals are. Do they line up? Will the actions and plans that you have in place now align you with the goals that you have for the future? If not there’s some revisions to be done.

Lastly, make sure that you include in your review your relationships with others. Regardless of where my interests and projects take me I always come back to the ways that we relate to each other. It is my life pattern and a part of my purpose. Because of this I spend quite a bit of time reviewing my relationships, beliefs, and behaviors. While making your plans and taking account for your energy, ask yourself what are the patterns that you find in your relationships? In the same way you are designing your life through this review process you can also design your relationships.

In the previous months you were called to balance out your thought paradigms with your feelings, feel your way through by diving deep into your emotions, and finally to take action and move forward. Now you are being called to be practical in your approach to evaluating your relationships. To look towards the future of where you would like to go and discern what is the best path to getting there. Do you want to nurture your relationships? Perhaps setting time aside for family, friend, and partnerships is the next step for you. Having a set dinner, movie, game, or activity night may help you to connect more consistently, something Capricorns love. On the other hand, you may also want to set some time aside for yourself as Capricorns are not necessarily known to be people persons. Perhaps the pattern that you come to recognize is that you give too much of yourself to others without setting aside time to replenish yourself. Or you may not give enough. Having an open heart is not the most practical life approach as feelings can lead us astray and cloud our judgement. Through balance though your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and actions can be your greatest asset in knowing the best path to take surpassing abstract logic.

Well there you have it, the subjects of our last new moon of 2016. Overall I implore you to release that which no longer serves your and redistribute your energy to the people, places, projects and plans that do. As we near the end of the year, may you find yourself in the best of company with high spirits. Here’s to planning and scheming!

Laying Down the Sword

c4756b2ce02196e5b1f862793779ca4c.jpg (498×550)

Greetings loves,

As you all know I’ve been doing quite a bit of self work. In doing so I’ve been reading the work of Alison Armstrong and to say it’s been an eye opener is a bit of an understatement. Ughhhhh we talked in my witchy circle the other day about how sometimes when doing a tarot card reading the cards just call you out. Making it oh so clear all the things that you really do not want to have to deal with. Well this book was the equivalent of that happening to me in the way that I approach masculinity. I must say though there are a couple of fundamental aspects of her teaching that I do not necessarily agree with that could be used by those who may not have the best interest for others but that’s an issue that I will let the author of the work deal with.

There’s quite a bit that is featured in her work so I encourage you to look into the books and other products if you are interested. I found that the portion that really connected to me was that she actually explained her thesis with examples in her work. I have seen quite a few “woman’s groups” that are focused on healing the feminine and the relationship to the masculine but to me they never truly explore the why. they never touch on the background of the topic and what has led to western society’s current state. As a sociologist I need this explanation and exploration! I am a why person. I need to know how, why, and what has occurred in conjunction with the topic in order to really be able to grasp and honestly believe the information that is being given to me. I also found the fact that the information was shared in a story format really assisted my creative side in being open to the information. The resistance was not as strong as it normally may be because I was able to see a multitude of examples applied to these characters so while I related to it it was in a gentle way that didn’t seem attacking.

So what I am adding to my new paradigm is to release my negative viewpoint on the capacity of men to be available and open. The one vow I made was to put down the sword at least when it comes to men in my personal life. Although I have put the sword down I have not put it away though because at times the need to defend is a just reality. It is wise to have the skills as I want to be as prepared as possible without being on the defense. In much the same way as I see reading Armstrongs’ work as gathering skills and information I too know that the lessons that I have learned have from times I had to take up the sword to be of use as well.

Perhaps the best part of this all is knowing when it is appropriate to lay down the sword instead of having it constantly ready to go. But it must be acknowledged that being able to put down the sword of defensiveness is a privilege that quite a few are unable to even test out. So I am appreciative of my ability to be able to explore a new a way of being. My tarot readings have consistently been implying that it’s time for me to take a new approach to things. That if I continue to hold on to my ways that I will find myself always caught in the same loop, living the same life only with different characters. I’m ready to change. To go back to a me that I can only remember as a child who could relate to my being infinite ways.

6a825ffdb824dc1446ada72eba5ace7d.jpg (450×426)

So now I lay down the sword and pick up my scepter.

For those of you who aren’t experiencing the best of times this season or this time of year is always difficult for you, I pray that you are able to find ways to find joy even if it means staying in bed watching movies or reading all day.

Winter Solstice

a7b43d6aa76b9a9a2a1a968d8dd481b3.jpg (2048×1280)Greetings beloveds,

It’s winter solstice for us here in the Northern hemisphere and I am so excited! Fall may be my favorite season but winter solstice is my all time favorite season transition. It’s so magical and for me represents the time when I begin completing my planning for next year. This is also the day (or more appropriately night) when I divine what my next year will be like.

I’ve spoken quite a bit about winter as a season which you can find herehere , and most recently here. Winter solstice is not only the longest night of the year but it is also known as the time that the sun returns often referenced in various cultures as the return of the sun of God or the Sun God. This is a beautiful tale that portrays the joy of the beginning of the ascent of the Goddess or divine feminine. Although this has been watered down drastically over time, but still seen with the emphasis on the virgin mother Mary, the importance of the divine feminine is a vital part of this time as without the mother there is no sun (or son). Lest you feel that there is an imbalance, which there is as this time is the darkest of them all remember that the son grows up over the seasons and comes together with the feminine dying and being reborn again and again. Therefore there are parallels between these polarities of energy between the void (the feminine) and form (the male) in their cycles. It truly is all about balance.

Lest we get lost in these ideas of the energy of creation in forms of Gods and Goddesses I would like to emphasize that these are forms given to energetic patterns which help our minds to understand the vastness of the all. So in order to take advantage of this time when we are slowly seeing the return of the light and thus the return of our energy that we have put into our plans and endeavors I will share with you my divination guide that I use at the Winter Solstice.

img_20161221_073009_717Tarot or Oracle Card Winter Solstice Spread

Style 1: Connect to your cards in whatever form works for you then begin to shuffle. Concentrate on drawing to you your focus of 2017 until a card jumps out. That is your general area of focus for the year of 2017.

Continue to shuffle the cards until you have 4 more jump out. These will represent Winter 2016, Spring 2017, Summer 2017, and Fall 2017.

Style 2: If you are not one who uses cards that jump from the deck then continue to shuffle once you’ve spent some time on the general focus of 2017. Once that feels complete take the bottom card of the deck and place that in front of you to represent your general focus for 2017.

Now continue to shuffle the cards concentrating on revealing your focus for the next four seasons Winter 2016, Spring 2017, Summer 2017, and Fall 2017. Shuffle the deck 4 times, 8 times or until you feel complete.

Split the deck into 4 with your non-dominant hand these will represent Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.

This is a deceptively simple spread that is super accurate. I’ll have more winter related blog posts coming to you all for the rest of the season. Have fun loves and Happy Yule, Winter Solstice.

Spice it Up

Greetings beloveds,

I’ve been writing a bit about food during the colder season here in the Northern Hemisphere and thought that now would be a great time to share some quick recipes I use to make some winter treats.

Hot-Chocolate.jpg (1200×735)Hot Chocolate: 2-3 Servings

5 heaping tablespoons of cacao powder or 1 cup of semisweet chocolate baking chips

Dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves

pinch of salt (pink Himalayan sea salt if you have it)

3-4 Cups of your favorite milk substitute

honey or other sweetener to taste

Combine all ingredients in a small or medium saucepan over low heat stirring frequently until all ingredients are combined. Let your hot chocolate continue to heat until at your desired temperature.

If you would like to get fancy throw in some marshmallows or use a cinnamon stick to add some depth to your yummy dish.

I fix this on cold winter evenings when I am wanting to feel well taken care of and wrapped up in warmth. It is often said that food that is prepared with love tastes better to those who consume it. For me this is a dish that always reminds me of times when I was younger and all was safe in the world. Find that dish that holds those feelings and memories for you. Make the commitment to prepare this for yourself at least every so often. When we consciously take time to care for ourselves it is not only a message to the universe that we mater but also a form of resistance to enact for all those who may attempt to have oppressed you at any point.

Remember you matter.

With love,

Rose

The Lesson of the Meat Hook

908a6f48fe39e0970caea20f7e35a087.jpg (500×593)

Greetings beloveds,

I hope you are doing well and know you are loved. It seems though that quite a few folks are going through a journey within the underworld. I have referenced the story of Inanna often which you can find a quick summary of here under Autumn Equinox. At this time we are about to witness the magic of Winter Solstice. As noted within my previous post Flowing with the Seasons, we are entering the underworld symbolically and often literally at the Autumn Equinox. Upon reaching the Winter Solstice we are solidly within the underworld with the longest night of the year representing the three days that Inanna spent deceased hanging from the meat hook.

It’s relevant to speak about this now not only because in the Northern hemisphere the Winter Solstice is occurring this Wednesday December 22, but because I have noticed that it appears that many of us are in the depths of the underworld hanging upon that meat hook. You could be at this point already where you feel that you are dead, no longer breathing or functioning within this world. Maybe all you’re doing is sleeping, feeling drained and as if you can’t do more than the bare minimum. Or perhaps you haven’t been able to sleep. The thoughts swirling around in your head clambering to gain supremacy but never being able to sort them all out. Crying, howling, running, fighting. Dying. Just to be reborn again a moment later.

Our lives are a cycle of never ending growth even after the we that we know ourselves to be has ceased to exist. It is painful, this growth process. Over the last few months I have seen countless people crying out in healing from their pain, trauma, and countless forms of suffering. Hateful words being spewed from even the kindest presenting souls. Judgement, discrimination, pride, despair, anger, greed, closed hearts- all of those things that we run away from but can never escape because they are the parts of us that need love.

There’s been an emphasis on shadow work within the spiritual community. Some are very opposed to it and some revel in it finding a freedom that can be seductive yet addictive but that is a conversation for another time. Spending time in the underworld dying is not a choice. It’s not something you can schedule or decide to take a “trip” into. In our society that has trained us into neurotic beings determined to have control (through which we attempt to seek freedom) we may feel drawn to taking action to address our shadow so that we are “in control”. It is only once we travel down that path that it becomes oh so clear that we are far from in control in the way in which we understand these concepts of freedom and control. One may think that choosing to engage with their shadow will offer them control and freedom. It won’t. It will cause you to go to the depths of your being. Deeper and deeper until we come to the point where separation from the world around us disappears. Where we see the connection between all the things that we have been, are, and will be.

The pain that you are experiencing, this nightmare that it seems we are encountering that is couched in darkness trying to hide the light as if they are not one, it is a stepping stone. It is not the end nor was it your beginning. There is no separation from the light and dark. As you heal you shift that energy into something different. Expanded past more than what it was when it was perceived as separate. There is power in that shift.

So yes cry, stay in bed, build a pillow fort, seek counseling or therapy, rage on against the atrocities bestowed upon you, embrace the joy that you can find, revel in the love that is all around you. Find your ways to heal and survive. Because it is only after you have been strung up upon the meat hook do you awaken to new life and way of being. So peel back your layers until there’s nothing left. Gather the soil of what you would like to refashion yourself to be, whole, and integrated (for now). Come back to us here in this space. We love you and need you.

But of most importance…do not be afraid to write a new story. The myths we know are crying out in the same manner demanding to be reborn. What is the new story? Tell it. Shout it. Even if it seems no one is listening because the soul hears all. I will share with you all one of the new myths that has come to light for me by the new moon. I hope that I will see more and more come forth.

With love,

-Rose

December 2016 Full Moon in Gemini

gemini_from_the_dancing_zodiac_by_aquasixio-d95myoh.jpg (1350×900)

Greetings beloveds,

I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the cold whether that has been moving across the US over the past week. We are definitely heading into the winter season. It’s been such an emotional roller coaster for quite a few folks. There have been a lot of astrological aspects which have been occurring over the past few weeks.

Today though is our last full moon of the year and it happens to be in Gemini. Now I don’t know about the rest of you all but I know I have an…interesting relationship with Gemini’s. As one of the air signs, Gemini is of course associated with communication. Ruled by the planet Mercury, they are the ultimate bearers of messages, information, and anything intellectual. Due to their creative nature, those born under the sign of Gemini are well suited for careers in journalism, social media, or writing.

Now, where Gemini’s get their not so great reputation from is because of their being known as the twin sign. Forever curious and seeking to know everything that they can be a bit talkative partly because they are looking to find out as much as they possibly can. So yes in other words they can be nosy and may come off a bit two-faced because of that great desire to gather and share information or what we may call gossip. Actually though Gemini’s are able to see the many sides that exist to our reality and don’t feel any conflict between agreeing with multiple viewpoints. For some who are very black and white this feels flaky and inauthentic but actually it can be a very positive aspect if used in the best manner to bring others together by pointing out their similarities in what could appear to be very different experiences.

This full moon in Gemini, will shed light on our relationships and how we communicate. There are couple of areas that will be of significant interest. Firstly, take a look at your relationship to what you know as home. Not the literal physical location but your internal sense of home. Who resides in that space? Do you love visiting them and look forward to going home or are you constantly looking for excuses to stay away? Gemini’s are a little too intellectual to always be aware of social graces as they are lacking that grace from Venus that Libra’s have and are too focused on interpersonal interactions unlike the humanitarian Aquarius meaning they have the guts to tell it like it is which may be exactly what you need to be doing at this time. Right now you are needing to clear out house and home of all energies that are not giving you what you desire. This will be assisted by a surge of personal power leaving you feeling super supported and capable of saying and sharing the feelings and thoughts you may have been too scared to share before. Pay particular attention to patterns in your relationships. We all have relationships that play out in the same way but is this the manner in which you would like for them to across or are you finding yourself in relationships/partnerships/situationships that leave you constantly wanting more? Clear that ish out!!

Take some time to invest in yourself loves. There’s no better time to focus on the ways in which we can enrich each other than to make sure we are taking care of ourselves. You are so loved. If your heart has been hurt or broken know that the powerful being you are does not change or disappear because of what has occurred to you. You evolve and become stronger integrating your experiences into your personal power source. Shine your light brightly. Know that as the Gemini is able to see all sides of the story and flow with the tides so can you. You are resilient and will rise.

with love,

-Rose

Preparing for Winter

sps_goddess_of_winter_by_nero_tbs-d6wiqc3.jpg (1000×700)Greetings beloveds,

I hope all is well with you. Are you excited for the upcoming winter season here in the Northern Hemisphere? This can be a super magical time of year depending on how you harness the energy of this time. This is not a time of exertion but of inner work and healing. Check my previous post on Flowing with the Seasons to get a quick overview of what’s the journey of Autumn includes along with what is to come in the Darkest part of the year.

Here’s your Quick Spiritual Winter Prep Guide!

Regroup

This can mean a lot of things depending on what type of person you are and where you are in life. Whether a couple of hours, a day, a week, or a month, make the decision to take some time for yourself. No commitments outside of those to yourself. Spending time alone is magical but for some it can be very uncomfortable if there are issues that you have been avoiding dealing with. Find those areas that you would like to improve upon and begin to identify them. Write out clearly what the charateristic, goal, or relationship is that you would like to transmute. In acting out the myth of the underworld it is during the winter solstice that you will decide whether you would like to retain these things or leave them within the underworld. To know though where you would like to go you would need to have an understanding of where it is you have been. So take time to regroup in order to clear the way for new life.

Rest

The days are getting shorter and shorter as we get closer to the winter solstice. Although the rest of the world is continuing to clamor about late into the evenings set an intention to get adequate rest this winter. Sleep is one of the most important gifts that we can give ourselves as getting a good nights rest supports emotional well-being, healthy brain function, and physical health. You can learn more about the importance of sleep for your health here. Rest could also include separating work from personal time. Perhaps make the decision to not return to work projects outside of work hours. If you work for yourself, set hours and stick to them. Remember each time you make a promise to yourself and keep it you are reinforcing that you matter and are important.

Nourish Yourself

Winter is one of the best times to really pamper and perform self care rituals. Taking a hot bath filled with lovely essential oils. There are many to chose from and you can create your own combination to soothe, enhance, and heal yourself. Self-care also involves feeding your body the best foods that you can. During the colder months we want things that are comforting and warm. Foods that remind us of the warmth of our world and the promise of heat that comes from the soon to be returning sun. I’ll have a post up soon on the different foods that are in season during the winter months as well as how to use different spices to keep you warm and healthy during those colder winter months. For now though, add ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or any chili powder to foods to liven them up and increase the heat in the foods you consume. This should warm you from the inside out.

Meditate

I’ve spoken about the importance of meditation before here. During the winter while you are preparing and setting goals it is important to have a clear mind as well as connection with your higher power/self to guide the plans that you make. So find a way to clear your mind and connect. It is the powerful thing that you can do for yourself in your life. Here are just a few examples but the magic of meditation lies in it’s ability to exist in so many different forms.

Breath/Energy  work

Kundalini, Chakra work, Guided Visualization

Movement

Yoga, Qi Gong, Walking, Running,

Contemplative

Journaling, Painting, Drawing, Sound, Gardening

I hope this quick guide gets you started in preparing for the upcoming winter. There’ll be more to come to help us get the most out of the time within the belly of the Earth.

With love,

-Rose
