Life After Death: November’s Call to Reset

November

Greetings beloveds,

I hope you all are well. The weather is shifting quickly in alignment with the rapid shifting of our spiritual states. We are pulling in. Moving to focus our energy on the internal. Our souls, our emotions, our thoughts and minds in a tangible way. This also draws our attention to our interactions and how this effects our internal states. This November, here at the Bliss Institute we will be focused on the element of air through breath. More specifically, how breath can ground and connect us when we are feeling called to retreat from the other. The power of breath, of air, is sometimes lost in the thoughts of the mind or the pull of the physical. This month we move beneath the surface to remember what we have always known.

November also finds us firmly within the underworld. Samhain has passed but energy is fluid so the veils remain thin as our connection to the spirit world increases with the decrease of light from the sun. More Goddesses of life and death will be introduced such as Ala, Pele, and Kali. It is also fitting that we find balance through the divine masculine and death in part 3 of our book review of The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. This is a fitting transition to Gods of Life and Death that will be introduced in 2018. Lastly, celebration through feast, community, and faith will be explored through the planet Ceres and the benefits of giving thanks.

We welcome November and give thanks for lessons we will learn as the underworld becomes our home.

The State of Earth in Astrology

Earth

Greetings beloveds,

Today we will discuss Earth’s role in astrology, or more so it’s lack of. Astrology is a complex topic with many interpretations, nooks, and perspectives to explore. Yet, although the inhabit the Earth, our home planet is often only noted in passing in astrology. Astrology is another sun centered approach to understanding the human experience. There are not many who are completely unfamiliar with their “sun” sign. Solar based horoscopes can be found in magazines, online, in newspapers, and other forms of media. Diving deeper into the depths of astrology we learn about the association between the other planets, elements, stars, and constellations. Yet in all of this, where is the planet Earth?

How is the very place where we are physically born, live, love, and die left out of the equation? Yes, it is an element always present in providing attributes of grounding, security, wealth, home, harvest, and nourishment to the signs of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Our knowledge of what the element of Earth provides us is informed by our close relationship with the very planet it is named for. Our home deserves a space within astrology among the astrological signs. As there are two Earth signs which share ruling planets it seems only logical that Taurus or Virgo be ruled by Earth. Looking closer at the qualities of each sign of home, beauty, harvest, and analysis, Earth could be ruler of either sign or both. In actuality, we find that the Earth is present in every sign because we are present in every sign. Taurus though as the sign of earthly pleasures, persistent, foundation, domesticity, and strength is the perfect partner to Earth. By partnering Taurus and Earth together, Venus is then left to Libra to provide us with the beauty of justice and harmony. What of Virgo then? Well some astrologers assign Chiron, the wounded healer, to our harvest sign. Here at the Bliss Institute, Virgo is partnered with the dwarf planet Ceres. We will speak more about this though at another time.

To find where the Earth falls in your chart simply look to the opposite point of your sun sign. I, for instance was born with the Sun at 23 degrees in Libra. My Earth then is at 23 degrees of Aries. The house and sign that Earth is present in in our charts shows us how we are relate to our current life on this plane. My Earth being in Aries in the first house, which is coincidentally (or not) where my moon’s north node is located, indicates that during this life time I am learn how to embrace my individuality and ability to thrive based on my own capabilities. Not to depend on others and to walk my own path. My soul is ready to strike out and have a new experience. If you know where you Sun sign is located in your natal chart just hop directly across the circle and you’ll find your Earth sign.

So what are your thoughts on the planet Earth and astrology? What sign and house is the Earth located in in your natal chart? Share your findings in the comments below. I would love to hear whether you feel that this is relevant to your lived experience.

Have a delightful day,

-Rose

All Hallows Eve: Past The Seventh Gate of the Underworld

Autumn Equinox- Entering the Underworld

My favorite myth associated with the underworld is that of Inanna. You can read the full post on entering the underworld during the Autumn Equinox here. For now we will look a the tipping point of the journey as we pass through the 7 gates and move into the underworld. Through the seven gates of the underworld Inanna travels leaving one of the 7 Sacred Me’s at the gate. These are the portions of herself being connected to her power and position as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Finally stripped bare and bowed low Inanna enters the underworld where the Annuna or judges of the underworld pass judgement on Inanna with the final judgement being given by her own sister Ereskigal who attaches the eye of death, speaks the word of wrath and then cries the decry of guilt on Inanna. Ereshkigal then hangs Inanna’s lifeless body from a meat hook where she hangs for three days. Until the beings sent by Enki manage to slip through the gates of the underworld to find the lifeless Inanna. This is not the end of the Inanna’s tale but it is where we will stop today.

Autumn marks the time when we are at the beginning of the Inanna myth. It is time for us to begin to make note of who we think we are and prepare to leave that at the gates of the underworld. This is an exercise that takes time and energy. It can be quite taxing so be prepared to feel the shift of what it means to be within the underworld. You have set up goals, put those plans into place and then taken action to bring them forth. What has not served you or worked well can be left within the underworld. For when you pass through those gates and hang upon the hook during Samhain (Halloween) it will be your choice as you begin the ascent back to our world whether you would like to pick these portions of yourself up or leave them there. The power is in your hands.

Next week will be October 31st, a time when it has been known for the veils between the worlds to be at their thinnest. When it is easiest to contact our ancestors, spirit guides, or any other being that is no longer material on this plane. There are many rituals and practices surrounding this time. I suggest that if you are interested in honoring this sacred space that you locate or create one which best fits your practice. No matter what you desire to do next week keep in mind that this is the space to leave behind your regrets, dreams, accomplishments, failures, hopes, and fears. All of which holds you back from being truly free in your heart and soul. On the night of October 31st, lay them at the crossroads between this world and the next.

Inanna teaches us upon entering the underworld that we are not defined by our external actions and words but by the entirety of who we are. Our subconscious drives must meet with our conscious will and together their energy of creation ripples outward. Whether your life fell apart or came together in 2017 it is time to let your ego or conscious mind take a rest. Let your subconscious move towards the front. Let it take your hand and lead you to a metaphorical death of who you THINK you are. In doing so, your true self will be reborn into flesh.

Welcome to underworld.

New Moon in Libra: The Beauty in Expansion

New Moon Readings (1)Greetings beloveds,

New moon in Libra, who dis? Ohhh the love of Libra to have balance and harmony in their worlds. Let’s of changes are coming and if you think that things are getting a little out there, just wait. I’m still on b-day celebration so this new moon reading will be short but to the point.

In general, this new moon is about reveling in what you have manifested from the hard work you’ve been doing all year. For some of us this is a time for joy, celebration, and saying oh yes give more of that. For others, it’s a “this is my life??”. It’s time to take a look around and see what you are creating. If your world is turning upside down and not in your favor, you’ve got about a week before Scorpio comes in and drags your ass to the underworld. Oh Libra is all love, fun, and beauty but they will read you with a quickness. There’s no better judge than a Libra on their throne. If you find that things are going in the direction you desire, bravo love the world is at your finger-tips. If not, it’s not too late. It’s never too late with Libra at the wheel as long as you are open, transparent, and willing to bare your soul. It’s time.

Time for honesty, time for self-care, time for you to honor yourself. In the work that I’ve done on the feminine and the masculine it’s interesting to see how really they are the same although they may appear to be very different. This new moon The Goddess steps into the spotlight in a way that cannot be ignored. She is calling for us to remember our creative ability and the energy of creation. How it is a process which starts with just a seed. What seeds have you planted? What seeds are languishing under the soil of your soul waiting for you to giving them some light so they can break free of their casing and bloom? Take a deep breath. Take several deep breaths. Go for a swim, take a nap, have sex, write, paint, sing, dance, hang with friends, cook a meal, make something. Now see what you did there? That’s creation.

Dream big. Did that? Ok now dream bigger! We live in an ever expanding world and yet we play small. Why? Fear, shame, pity, pettiness, anger, trauma, love, compassion, security or support? Shift your focus from lack to plenty. We are always birthing something (it just does not always look like what we thought it would). When it arrives look your creation straight in the eye and say well alright this is just what I wanted or alright this is something (you gotta learn to have fun with it).

Here’s a little story I’m going to share with you about our expanding world and playing small. I have 6 figure school loan debt that I hate and find to be very embarrassing. I prefer to not have to talk about or even acknowledge its existence. I make my monthly payments and hope that one day it just magically disappears. Money flows in to me pretty quickly. I get a lump sum every month for just being alive. Yet, that loan debt is the shadow behind my apparent abundance. This week I turned 30 and wanted to have a luxurious experience. Spa, hot tubs, saunas, and time in nature. I wanted it to fit my budget because I want to pay for things in cash and not add to my debt. Yet, here I am charging my room. My shadow says you want it baby, you’ll get it. Room super cheap, all other expenses paid in cash. My shadow laughs at me as I continue to drag shame around because I’ve gotten what I wanted. I know folks with no debt and can’t seem to rub two pennies together and yet I could never work again and still have enough income to support myself if I scale down my lifestyle. My debt is large because my ability to manifest is large. So I’m welcoming it in. All of it! As Carolyn Elliot says in her amazing EK work for her Influence Course (take it you won’t regret it. I’m getting on my shadows side.

Get on your shadows side. Create, expand, and find the beauty in the world around you.

Move Like Air: Part 1 The Movement of Breath

The Movement like Air

Greetings beloveds,

It’s finally happened! Texas has finally experienced a cool front and that means that everyone wants to be outside. This is a great time to start or restart your movement practice. Since fall is ruled by the element of air, we are looking at movement that brings our attention to our breath. I know for me I always become aware of my breath while practicing intentional walking, jogging, or running. I say intentional walking, because for many folks walking is their primary mode of moving their body from one place to another. Because it is something we do all the time, it becomes an automatic behavior. We do not have to think about all the systems that are necessary for our bodies to allow for us to walk. Yet, if for any reason we are unable to move in that manner or our attention is brought to the physical systems involved in that form of movement. When we intentionally walk, we are bringing our attention to our organs, muscles, breath, and energy while moving.

Anytime we focus on our attention on something it gives it power. Not power over us, but power to be utilized and amplified. We then can decide what we would like to do with that power. Sometimes you need to circulate that energy internally other times you may need to perform a little magic to enhance your external world. The choice is yours. What is important is to make the decision to take the action. Even if it is just to clear your mind, movement that can shift your energy is a way to improve your well-being. What is even more magnificent is that breath itself is a form of movement. If possible take in this beautiful weather through some intentional breath, walking, or running. We will cover some specific techniques in our next post on movement during the fall.

Have a beautiful day,

-Rose

Polarity, Gender and Sexual Energy

Greetings beloveds,

Last week we covered polarity here at the Bliss Institute and it inspired me to think a bit more about polarity and energy. You can read the post on Polarity here. More specifically, the relationship between the our ability to generate and create. Polarity is when there are opposite or an unequal distribution of poles, directions, charge, or energy present in an item or being. When speaking of masculine and feminine energy we find that generally these are discussed as being opposites that complement each other. Masculine energy is associated with action, direction and giving. Feminine energy, in turn, is receptive, intuitive, and introspective. These two energies represent opposite charges or ends of the poles.

Yin-Yang-Personality-Trait-Scale.jpg (550×367)

Everyone has both masculine and feminine energy. Although someone may have been assigned male or female at birth this designation does not speak to energetic polarity. Regardless of genetic makeup, gender presentation, or sexuality you will have both masculine and feminine energy. Your energy is neither equally distributed nor constant. It fluctuates depending on a variety of activities and circumstances. You can also intentionally shift your charge or through practices such as meditation, movement based practices including dance, yoga, walking, and sex. All of these activities cause for your energy to shift. It allows for a build up of energy to occur which when it reaches the threshold releases a powerful surge of creation/manifestation potential.

The electric charge you currently hold establishes your point of attraction. Masculine energy holds a positive charge and feminine energy is associated with negative energy. Not in a moral sense but simply how it interacts with the world around it. Negative energy draws in positive energy. It is the energy of the void whose space allows for new life (projects, business, love, physical items, or a child) to be developed and manifested. As the negative charge builds continuing to draw in more and more positive energy the polarity eventually reverses releasing the built up energy. From there the process starts again. Masculine energy that has a positive charge is attracted to negative energy wanting to balance it’s self out. masculine energy will give and give towards the negative charge until it has reached the point of having cleared enough space to replenish itself through the energy released from the climax.

Regardless of what energy you hold you are capable of harnessing this energy. You can figure out where your charge lies on the polar range through an examination of your actions and interactions with others. If you find that you are constantly taking on others emotions, needs, desires, or work you may have a high amount of feminine energy. Upon recognizing this you can balance out by finding someone who will allow for you to release the energy you have built up through many ways such as ritual, conversation, or activity. If you find that you are constantly giving, doing, or feel constantly energetically depleted your polarity may be out of balance and you need to either find a way to increase your energy or interact with a conductor which will exchange energy with you.

You might also choose to intentionally build this energy up with someone for the purpose of enlightenment or manifestation. In that case read up on ancient tantric practices and energetic practices. We will discuss some of these practices in November so look out for part II.

With love,

-Rose
