Hello, my loves,
This year, Venus and Mars meet again in their celestial dance on January 8th—this time in the sign of Capricorn, which has been very active. Venus and Mars experienced a conjunction in February 2024, which you can read about HERE.
This conjunction is a continuation of their cycles through the sign of Capricorn. Venus just completed its superior conjunction, shifting from Morning to Evening Star, while Mars will experience its conjunction to the Sun on January 9th.
While Venus and Mars have historically been associated with the feminine and masculine, respectively, we are aware that they are not limited by socially determined gender identities. Both planets are present in everyone’s charts. Thus, we must examine our personal relationships with the areas that each planet rules, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
This conjunction will have the highest impact on those with direct aspects of their natal planets to this current transit. Collectively, though, we will all experience the impact of the celestial dance of Venus and Mars, specifically with the energies of Capricorn. Therefore, let us start by taking a look at the sign of Capricorn.
Capricorn
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet exalted in Libra. Capricorn season calls us all to the table. It asks us to review where our time has gone. Do you know how long you spend on things? For instance, what do you believe your screen time is versus how long you actually spend on your phone? How much time do you spend on habits, at work (including commuting), with friends, family, sleep, and hygiene? Capricorn season always makes us aware of the gap between what we believe or want to do versus what we actually do.
Sagittarius season asks us to lean into the tension of desire and growth. To increase our awareness of our beliefs, which drive our actions. Capricorn season then arrives to tell us to take that experience and put it into practice. This season brings into focus the impact of what we believe and do. It is time to ask, what is the long-term goal or purpose of what you are doing?
Capricorn is a sign that is present and aware. Planets and transits through Capricorn make us intimately aware of the cost of avoidance, procrastination, and fear.
Capricorn is a sign that represents mastery. Capricorn is part fish and part goat. They can dive into the deepest depths and climb the highest mountains. It is an energy that asserts that we can be more, do more, and go further than we can imagine if we are willing to put in the effort through commitment. It is time to reconsider what it means to become a master of a subject or activity. With this awareness of where your time goes, are you applying yourself towards what you desire to complete? Or are you climbing mountains because it is what you THINK or were TOLD you should be doing?
Venus and Mars
Venus operates on an 8-year cycle while Mars follows a roughly 2-year one. For a full review of their cycles visit this POST.
Let’s take a look at how Venus and Mars show up in Capricorn.
Venus in Capricorn
Venus in Capricorn seeks to achieve relationships or a connection that requires time, energy, and effort to cultivate. Here, we view our relationships and connections as a work of art in which we, the artists, seek to create a masterpiece. This placement encourages us to look for connections that are sustainable, substantive, and through which we are fully committed.
And if you find that something is no longer in alignment, can you be brave enough to release it? Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, takes us to task on the subject of holding to that which doesn’t serve us. It asks us, How long will you stay here? How terrible must it get for you to let go? We need the skills of discernment and discrimination, which Venus gives us, so that we can choose wisely who and what to commit to. They also give us the ability to identify when that connection has ended or if you are experiencing a rough patch. During this transit, challenges arise that ask us to develop discipline to see things through to the end.
This is how we face the shadow of Venus in Capricorn
- I will not let my relationship commitments become just a checkbox on my list of tasks
- I will ask for support and help from the people who I have invited into my life.
- I will remain vulnerable even as I develop the inner strength to persevere through obstacles.
A full review of Venus through the signs, including natal partners and transits, will be available in The Venus Intensive coming soon.
Mars in Capricorn
This placement gives us a relentless drive to accomplish great feats. Mars directs our inner will towards dedication and commitment to our great work. What we decide to focus this energy towards is where we can experience great success or a feeling that we have spent our time climbing the wrong hill.
Mars directs us to accomplish works aligned with our greatest strengths, values, and aspirations. To best understand how this impacts us, we go to our natal chart. Our natal chart reveals the areas that we will find the peaks to climb and the depths to explore, which will give us that sense of time well spent. The subject of the mountain is not what is important. One can dedicate oneself to anything. It is the fit of that commitment.
What is even more important is our ability to course correct when we find ourselves climbing the incorrect mountain or taking the wrong trail.
- Can you identify the markers that let you know you are on the right path?
- How easily is it for you to change direction, find a new path, or go back to the beginning and start over?
Here we meet the shadow of Mars, pride and stubbornness.
- I will face my fear of failure and not allow myself to remain in commitments longer than necessary to avoid feelings of shame, embarrassment, anger, or sadness.
- I recognize that anger is not the only emotion I can use to motivate myself. I will explore and find other ways to maintain my passion.
- I will be aware of projecting anger onto others and see this as an invitation to examine the correct fitness of this connection.
- I will not run away from my greatness. I will allow feelings of overwhelm or fear to reveal where adjustments are needed.
- I will not stay in situations because the familiar feels safer than the unknown, which could result in conflict.
Quitting your job, changing careers, going back to school, divorce, marriage, having children, asking for childcare assistance, moving, buying or selling a home, and committing to a lifelong passion are all mountains worthy of being climbed. It is up to us to assess if they are the correct ones for us.
Mars here gives us the advantage of singular focus, concentration, strategy, and courage to continue where others would give up when faced with difficulties. As long as we are on the right mountain or in the correct ocean, we can keep going and achieve success. This reveals the other shadow of Mars in Capricorn, ignoring our own well-being to achieve a goal. We must remember that self-care is not an option. It is a priority so that when we complete our goals, we are healthy enough to enjoy them.
