Power and Relationships: Mars Retrograde in Leo and Venus in Aquarius

Hello my loves,

Welcome back to more fun with Mars and Venus. The last time we chatted about them was during their conjunction in Aquarius in February. You can read about that transit here: Venus and Mars: A Dance Among the Stars.

In February, we experienced their conjunction, coming together and amplifying their energy in the sign of Aquarius. Then they went their separate ways until they created a square to each other, with Mars in Gemini and Venus in Virgo. This transit revealed the tensions in relationships with ourselves and each other that needed to be cleared and purified. Would we be brave enough to speak the truth? Or would we bite out tongues, remaining in a state of dissatisfaction?

Today, Mars and Venus are back on opposite sides of the zodiac—Mars retrograde in Leo and Venus in Aquarius. Aquarius energy is known to inspire, guide, instruct, guard, protect, and attempt/struggle to get us to do what is right. Aquarius is the last of the fixed signs in the Western zodiac. As an Air sign, Aquarius takes a mental approach to life. Symbolically, Aquarius represents the Ideal Man or an Angel: the immortal messenger to mankind from the gods. This energy translates as the perfected being who has liberated himself from the limitations of time and space (Saturn and Jupiter) to fly between heaven and earth with lofty concepts.

In Aquarian times, and specifically during Uranus transits, be on the lookout for the opportunity that awaits from the ending: The Lesson of Conscious Awareness telling us to – Wake Up!! Stay Alert!!Kamilah Rose

These energies are coming together as a form of the individuation journey. To successfully meet this rebirth, we must be courageous – using the energy of the Leo polarity. Leo, ruled by the sun, can represent the totality of self or our consciousness. At the same time, its opposing planet would be the luminary moon, ruler of Cancer, as a representation of our unconscious. When Aquarius is activated by transit or progression, we are invited to connect to the light of our conscious self, which provides us with the courage to face the cutting off of our most profound connections if they are not in alignment with the truth of who we are.

We’ve already been made aware of Venus’ requirement in Aquarius. Let’s explore that again below.

Venus in Aquarius: I am self-aware and self-possessed. I make my own decisions about what intimacy looks and means to me. I know what is expected of me by society, my family, and my culture. I decide though what I will and will not accept of those expectations. I appreciate and desire for my partners to respect my decisions, freedom, and independence. A partner who is also their own person, who makes decisions for themselves when it comes to connections and intimacy.

  • I commit to finding out for myself what my needs and desires are. I venture out on my own in a path of self-discovery and knowledge. I can think for myself and find it exciting to explore what works for me.
  • I allow myself to be vulnerable with others and not separate myself on the basis of fear of rejection or judgment. Others on the same path will welcome me, and I them.

In February, we were given the gift of Mars to take action towards being ourselves without compromise. Today, though, Mars is not amplifying the energy of Venus but creating an opposing force in Leo. Like Aquarius, Leo is aware of society’s expectations. Leo often enforces and guides those expectations as the group leader. They are who others look to see what they should be doing, how to thrive, and what success looks like. Leo, unlike Aquarius, looks for this approval and applause. Aquarius will do what they feel called to and stay aligned with it’s values no matter who knows or will see. Leo finds that to grow they have to express themselves fully AND be seen for that expression.

Mars retrograde in Leo causes us to reconsider and review whether we are on the right stage and in front of the right audience. Can we be brave enough to be vulnerable by expressing the parts of ourselves that matter the most to us? This opposes Venus in Aquarius, which is not concerned at all with what others think of them. In fact, they find that type of energy to be repulsive – say opposition. Mars and Venus are drawn to each other. They follow each other meeting and parting repeatedly. Their energy is magnetic.

Over the next two to three days, everyone, but particularly those with early degree (1-10) Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio may find themselves struggling to balance the need to express and focus on themselves with the desire to be in partnership and community. This is the pushback that we receive when we stay true to ourselves, but that is not reflected back to us by our social circles and community. This can lead to feelings of being misunderstood, annoyed, and rejected.

How do we manage this energy? Listen. Listen to yourself so that you understand what your boundaries are. Do not isolate yourself when you feel frustrated or upset with how others perceive you. Instead, listen to what they are telling you. Take that in and reflect upon it. Then decide after a day or so if that is a true interpretation or if it is a projection.

Above all else, do not make any sudden decisions based on what you hear from others. Seek the truth. Be brave. Have the tough conversations. Be honest with yourself.

DO NOT GET INTO PETTY ARGUMENTS.
