Venus Retrograde: Standing Between the Worlds as the River Rises

Hi my loves,

We are in the thick of it with this Venus retrograde inferior conjunction to the sun. In that shift from Aries to Pisces, we feel that pull to be direct, honest, and true to ourselves. When we operate from that stance, we will find others who are brave enough to meet us in that space. To connect in relationships, we must all be brave enough to be emotionally vulnerable, learn our boundaries, hold those boundaries, and face conflict. From that point, we move towards creating soul connections and intimacy. That our relationships with ourselves and each other are reflected in our relationship to Source. That in developing a spiritual practice that brings us back to ourselves and back to source, we improve our relationships with the other.

What is your practice? How do you honor your soul? How do you honor your spirit? How do you honor the energy of creation?

Yesterday was the first day Venus was visible after its rebirth as the Morning Star right at the edge of Aries. Today, the Morning Star returns to Pisces, meeting Neptune again. Venus and Neptune can make dreams come true or drown us in feeling overwhelmed.

We used the myth of Inanna and her descent into the underworld to explore the energy of returning with a fiery passion to the world. Today, the story has changed. The energy shifted. We are facing opportunities for change in every direction. Moving deep into the endless waters of the cosmos, Source, and the womb of creation.

The corpse is no longer hung upon the meat hook. Maybe it was never there to begin with. A distraction to allow the unconscious a chance to regroup and find its power in a changing world. Oya, the Orisha of storms, sudden changes, guarding the transition from life to death – name means she who tears. There is a story that the Nigerian river, Oya’s river, was created by a princess of a kingdom who was worried of being attacked by another kingdom. In seeking safety for themselves, they were advised to take a black cloth and have a woman tear it. The princess of the kingdom was chosen to be the tearer. When the black cloth fell on the ground, water black and deep sprang up surrounding the kingdom, forming a barrier to protect them from the upcoming war. And the Niger river was created.

Water not only heals, it flows. It separates land masses. It wears down rock until it creates canyons and ridges. Water rushes in, drowning the Earth and the structures we make in floods and storm surges. The Niger river has many tributaries. It shifts its direction of flow. There are surges and times of inundation where the smaller offshoots come together as one. As the river runs, it carries the sediment and refuge downstream. Clearing and cleansing the spaces. There are two high water periods, the white flood when the water is clearer due to less sediment, and the black flood when the sediment count is higher. Oya sweeps in, changing and flowing. She spreads out among the people just as the Niger river spreads out over the land. Oya the Orisha of the Niger river is clearing space, transforming the land, and receiving offerings as a form of appeasing the raging waters.

The Pisces north node/Virgo south node eclipse axis has emphasized the process of clearing our inner windows so we can see clearly. Encouraging us to take a realistic look at our everyday practices so we can adjust as necessary. What does the path forward look like? It is a path centered around the practices and rituals that support our connection to Source.

Neptune has been moving through Pisces for the last 14 years. This year, for a short period of time, Neptune in Pisces occurs during the same time as the North Node moves through Pisces. This happened previously when the north node went through Pisces from Nov. 2015-May 2017. This also coincides with the last time Venus retrograded back into Pisces in March 2017.

What patterns are repeating? Where do you need to listen to the wind blowing, tearing, sweeping things away from your life?

It’s time for things to shift in your favor, but you’ll have to be brave enough to let Source, step in. The loss may feel significant in the moment, but like the princess who tore the clothe to save her people, this may be the change that is needed to shift the tides.

Oya is standing between the worlds. A raging storm, a lightning strike, a flooding river, the masquerade, the charging buffalo, a whisk, the nine colored skirt twirling in the wind, a machete cutting through the underbrush and clearing the way. Giving us a chance to survive through a glimpse at the old version of ourselves as the corpse upon the meat hook. But we are no longer there. We may have never been there. We just needed a chance to regroup and prepare to cross from one world to the next. From the Princess who tears to the Orisha who rules.

Tomorrow, we will look at our last story related to the Venus inferior conjunction and retrograde through the myth of Psyche and Eros.

See you then!

With love,

Kamilah Rose
