Spring Equinox 2019: Enchanted Ascension

Spring is HERE!

It is finally time to come out of the underworld and return to the surface to bring the subconscious into our conscious world.

Here’s the breakdown of what’s going on astrologically.

Sun and Chiron in Aries in the 9th house: A time of learning, exploring and taking the unbeaten path. Aries sun energy is connected to movement, speed, and determination. This may not be an elegant plan but it will get the job done. Chiron in Aries is healing our relationship with autonomy, sovereignty, leadership and developing the will to follow through with our plans.

During this spring equinox we’ll be learning more about our true selves and what we are here to contribute to the world. If you find that over the past 3-4 years you have been doing all the research and feel that you have an idea of what you would like to accomplish at this time in your life but can’t seem to get the curtain to rise on your one man show, Aries is acting as the stage manager who pulls the lead aside to chat with them about how there is no show without the team. The crew, the director, the audience – everyone has a role to play.

Autonomy is not isolation or rejection. It is the ability to have the power to assert and advocate for yourself and everyone in our global community. The energy of Libra assists with balancing the shadow of Aries who acts without thinking and is only concerned with what is best for themselves. Take your purpose and state it as a service. How does this contribute to the whole? See your place the grander story and let that drive you towards action.

Mercury and Neptune in Pisces in the 8th and 9th house respectively: 8th house work concerns inheritance, sexuality, and ritual. Mercury in Pisces is a slow, deep, other-worldy experience. Mercury is the communicator, messenger and trickster. Here Mercury pulls us into the subconscious to access information, memories, and pieces of ourselves that we have released because it did not serve us. Serve us in being outspoken may have gotten us punished, being quiet might have made us more susceptible to bullies, being quit and witty might have been frustrating to adults in your life who were not in the mood for that humor. These are not necessarily positive or negative personality traits. We see that sometimes then we push down parts of ourselves to survive or have what we perceive to be a better life.

Mercury opens the door to bringing up these experiences that we may not be consciously aware of. In the 8th house, we are looking at our intimacy inheritance. Couple that with Neptune in Pisces who is home in the waters of the subconscious and dreams in the 9th house which focuses on knowledge, exploration, and discovery. We are having encounters with our past selves through others, our dreams, our ancestors. Change and growth doesn’t always occur in the physical often it is psychological. What we heal internally if reflected externally.

Moon in Aquarius in the 8th house brings us to experiment with our relationship to our past, subconscious, and sexuality. We are wanting to move outside the conventional and try things that pique our interest because it is electrifying.

Big Daddy Cap is all up in this Spring Equinox. The outer planets and Mars are firmly grounded in the daily grind. Plans, systems, processes, and order are fall under Capricorns domain. Capricorns have the advantage of being made of land and water. Capricorns’ ground and balance the emotional sensitivity of Cancer. Capricorns may not incite ideas of sensitivity, grace, and emotional intelligence but this is what gives them the drive to be so productive. They are doing it for their loved ones, for the planet, for the universe. That takes a lot of strength and an ability to keep their eye on the prize. Even…a bit of selfishness.

This season we turn our attention to our health. Create that health regime. It’s time. Get your health in order, get your paperwork in order, make sure are aware of local resources that can assist you in health-related matters. Pay for the insurance, take your vitamins, eat nutrient dense foods, move your body, express your emotions, take time off, get enough sleep. We need consistency to create habits and time to see results. You may also see structure come to your relationships. You’re more pragmatic on how you approach partnerships, long term commitments, and contractual obligations. Be straightforward and don’t be afraid to assert yourself. List out your needs and requirements so you have a foundation to stick to when negotiations begin. You’re worth the investment.

Lastly, there is Uranus and Venus in Taurus in the 10th house indicating our careers will be impacted by our relationships and radical chance. Venus in Taurus is decadent. It is rich foods, luscious surroundings, and being enveloped in the most delicious comforting relationships. In the 10th house, Venus in Taurus calls us to make our careers feel like a love nest. It brings us to supportive surroundings, opportunities, and projects. It will also show us where we are missing these things in our purpose.

Research your own astrology so you can understand your relationship to what is happening in macro-astrology.

Of Duty and Sovereignty: Aquarius Season and Izanami-no-Mikoto

Aquarius season. We’ve dug out way out of the dark depths of Capricorn season. With the help of Marie Kondo folks are decluttering and finding the joy in their life. In the way that only Aquarius season can, we are guided by another air sign, to find a way to understand the information that we have acquired during Capricorn season.

Do you know the story of Izanami-no-Mikoto? She is a Japanese Goddess who with her beloved Izanagi, birthed the world. Her tale consists of several moments in which the social order of male and female relationships are established. First, when instead of waiting for Izanagi to speak first Izanami spoke up presenting them as a couple. Then there is the child of fire who she birthed which destroyed her. She is a mother who died in childbirth, attempting to bring light/life into the world.

Finally, we have her role as Goddess of Death. Izanagi ventured into the underworld to retrieve his love. Izanami had consumed food from that realm and could no longer return to the land of the living. She told her love that she would ask though if he would give her some time, but he must promise not to light a torch and look at her. Izanagi in his desire to see his beloved, found a light and gazed upon her anyway only to find that she was as she suggested, a dead decaying being. He ran from her in fright and she in turn came after him not believing that he would not only not listen to her, but reject her due to her state.

There is so much here to explore in this myth. So much that Izanami-no-Mikoto has to share with us. I cannot wait to share the insights and rituals with you all.

Enchanted: Full Moon in Cancer

It’s the most magical time of the year…well one of them at least. This full moon in Cancer coincides with the Winter Solstice. We have passed the 7th gate into the Underworld, leaving behind our connections to this material world to move deeper into the spiritual. A full moon in the darkest night illustrates the absorb nature of duality. There is never darkness without light or light without darkness. I was reminded of Genesis 1:1-3

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.”

There was never a time without darkness. The notion that we come from the light is a limited notion. Light comes from darkness. The energy of a cancer full moon brings us back to the waters of life that existed in the darkness. Think of all that is waiting for you in the shadows. More than you could ever imagine. We haven’t even explored most of the waters of this planet and are always finding new forms of life. New ways to love, exist and be. What exists in the dark waters of the primordial mother for you?

This new moon allow yourself to become Enchanted. To fall in love with the magic of the season. The way the light shines through the trees. The glisten on frost, ice,or snow in the morning light. The flicker of the firelight against the cold dark of the night. Everything holds a bit of magic within it if you’re willing to see it. There’s a magic practice that calls for you to “soften your gaze”,letting your eyes slowly lose focus so that the world is a little hazy. It removes the harsh filter of reality that binds us to this world. Move into the world of dreams an imagination of the 8th gate. This space that allows for anything to be possible. Unicorns, mermaids, fairies, elves, wands, and magic rings are the norm here. Need something? Say the words with the right materials and it is yours. If you’ve been following along I’ve been working my way through the underworld with some of the Goddesses of Life and Death. Checkout the Enchanted series to begin your exploration of this liminal space. It’s never too late to enter the land of Enchantment.

This full moon brings us healing and wisdom. When you entered the 7th Gate to the Underworld what did you release? What did you have to let go of? There is healing that can be found from finding your connection to these items, beliefs, experiences, roles, or relationships. There is something that holds you the reconnected to them and thus to your current state. If you want to change that through Shadow Alchemy, allow yourself to find the joy in not having them. The brilliance of letting Spirit carry the load for a moment. Does this make you feel anxious, scared, relieved? Sit with those feelings. Breath through them. Light some incense to your favorite guide, fix them a meal, and let yourself feel that release. In Enchantment we will explore the ways to utilize the art of beauty, glamour, visualization, breath work, and movement to perform Shadow Alchemy. The stronger the feeling the more powerful the reaction. Think of a chemical reaction, some are small and unnoticeable others can level a nation. Think of the change you can bring to your life with that kind of energy.

As you sit and take this energy in what messages have you received? Watch your dream sand look for other reoccurring signs in your life such as numbers (3, 6, 8), animals,or themes in your conversations will all be clues to what areas you need to work on or will assist you in your work. Oh and if you need some support Isis is the perfect Goddess to work with.

Happy Full Moon and Winter Solstice loves,

December Astrology Part 1: Right Side Up

Greetings,

December 1- Mercury Retrograde enters Scorpio:

We all know the retrograde spiel by now, especially with Mercury. Lags in communication, understanding, traffic issues, travel issues, blocks to your creativity, not being able to make progress on projects. All of these are elements associated with the planet Mercury and when any planet is in retrograde we see that energy slow down or become resistant. Mercury retrograde in Scorpio may find us diving deeply into metaphysical, philosophical, or areas that we just want to know more about. Yet, we may not find satisfying answers or information. Perhaps that book that has exactly what you are looking for is checked out of the library or the web page won’t load. You may also find that you are in a continuous dive. You become obsessed with a topic or issue to the point where you forget to accomplish or ignore other responsibilities. The key to this time is to HAVE FUN WITH IT. Don’t take anything too seriously. If you come across resistance just let it go. Mercury is only in retrograde for a couple of more days. You can do it!

December 2 – Venus enters Scorpio:

As Christina Aguilera said “wanna get dirty, it’s about time for my arrival”, Venus has officially entered Scorpio. Deep connections, secrets told between the sheets, kinks, and spiritual healing are all a part of Venus in Scorpio energy. This is the seductress or charmer. They pull you in through their mystery. Something that just makes you want to know more…about yourself, about the world, about each other. Coupled with Mercury in Retrograde you may find yourself obsessing over a project, passion, goal, or person. Thinking of them constantly or wanting to be near them often. Healthy ways to express this are through art, exercise, and other forms of creative expression. Because you do not want to test the Scorpion so best to give that energy space to be free in yourself and others.

Once Mercury goes direct on the 6th this is a great time to engage in magic practices that engage your senses. Eat decadent flavorful foods. Wear or touch fabrics that give you physical reactions. Use scents that create the feelings that you would like to manifest. Watch or visit beautiful movies and places. Listen to music or have conversations that gets your blood pumping. These elements can also help you to soothe and heal you if during this time you encounter painful emotions, memories, or information.

December 6th – Mercury goes Direct

FINALLY! We will be in the shadow of Mercury retrograde for a bit longer but things will start to flow again. Take advantage of the information gathering and start making those plans!

Check out the rest of this month’s astrology in my upcoming posts.

Move Like Air: Part 1 The Movement of Breath

The Movement like Air

Greetings beloveds,

It’s finally happened! Texas has finally experienced a cool front and that means that everyone wants to be outside. This is a great time to start or restart your movement practice. Since fall is ruled by the element of air, we are looking at movement that brings our attention to our breath. I know for me I always become aware of my breath while practicing intentional walking, jogging, or running. I say intentional walking, because for many folks walking is their primary mode of moving their body from one place to another. Because it is something we do all the time, it becomes an automatic behavior. We do not have to think about all the systems that are necessary for our bodies to allow for us to walk. Yet, if for any reason we are unable to move in that manner or our attention is brought to the physical systems involved in that form of movement. When we intentionally walk, we are bringing our attention to our organs, muscles, breath, and energy while moving.

Anytime we focus on our attention on something it gives it power. Not power over us, but power to be utilized and amplified. We then can decide what we would like to do with that power. Sometimes you need to circulate that energy internally other times you may need to perform a little magic to enhance your external world. The choice is yours. What is important is to make the decision to take the action. Even if it is just to clear your mind, movement that can shift your energy is a way to improve your well-being. What is even more magnificent is that breath itself is a form of movement. If possible take in this beautiful weather through some intentional breath, walking, or running. We will cover some specific techniques in our next post on movement during the fall.

Have a beautiful day,

-Rose

Full Moon in Pisces:

Full Moon in Leo Pisces

Greetings beloveds,

In a season where we are called to ground, discover our truth, and evaluate where we are in order to get where we want to be we find ourselves pulled deep within. It is the call of the deep, the peace and mystery of waters that are not moved by petty surface level disturbances. This is the work of the High Priestess who carries the energy of the Goddess during the great ritual. She may cleanse for a full season, meditate for days, set herself apart. As she wishes to reconnect with the love of the divine she finds herself sacrificed and reborn as creatures of great wisdom, magic, and glory.

This full moon there is great personal development ritual work to be done. If you have been waiting for the chance to work your magic that has been flowing through your veins since the Aquarius full moon, this is the moment. Turn the power that you send to others and the world around you inward. Return to your true self; a being of true power. It is your choice what you choose to do with this knowledge.

There are several rituals that you can do at this time. Here is one using mirror work.

  MIRROR WORK RITUAL

  •        Reflect upon the work that you have been doing. If you are aware of your purpose or of what you would like to manifest with your power write this down in a one sentence I am statement.
  • Take a shower or bath to clear your energy.
  • Then, in a quiet space, lower the lights and light a candle (use a color that corresponds with the purpose of your ritual).
  • Spend at least 5 minutes in meditation, calming your mind, deepening your breath, and center your attention on the purpose of your ritual.
  • Then, using a mirror or obsidian looking glass with a soft gaze look at your reflection.
  • Notice your facial features. Your eyes, nose, mouth, chin, ears, and hair.
  •  Does anything immediately catch your attention?
  • Do you find yourself having difficulty focusing on your reflection? Try to look directly into your eyes. What do you see? What do you feel?
  • Now say, “this is a physical manifestation of my soul. Through this form I can interact with the world around me. Through this form I can impact my world. With these eyes I see the truth and can find the path. With this mouth I speak into existence my purpose. I am…(insert your I am statement and repeat it 3X)”. Now close with your preferred casting phrase (Ase Amen Ra Ma’at, and so it is, as I will so mote it be, etc)

Enjoy!

August Planetary Placements

Greetings beloveds!

Here’s your August Astrology.

Aug 6 Venus enters Libra

Venus returns home to the sign of Libra in the 7th house today until September 9th (the new moon in Virgo). This is a significant event as 6 is the number associated with Venus and Libra. I have two recommendations for today depending on where you are in your path. One way to take advantage of this energy is to practice a very nourishing form of self-care. By this I mean what is your secret guilty pleasure? Binge watching The Barefoot Contessa? Calling in sick to work to sleep in? Whatever you do that brings you the greatest pleasure, do that today with an energy of appreciation and thanks. This will greatly begin the shift of your energy over the next three days. If you have been focusing on manifesting your purpose,

Aug 7 Uranus in Taurus in Retrograde (Mercury in Leo, Pluto/ Saturn in Capricorn, Neptune in Pisces, Mars in Aquarius, and Chiron in Aries are in retrograde).

Our 7th planet has entered into retrograde today. Uranus in Taurus in the 12th house is now in retrograde signaling the beginning of a revolution of perspective. Think Alice in Wonderland’s Cheshire Cat “Can you stand on your head?”. How open are you to change? Today is a beautiful day to break from convention and take that chance that you’ve been working towards. As this is a time of retrograde, if the pieces aren’t already in place then today is the day to write the plan, do the research, and receive insight from the Universe so you can follow your dreams. Be open. The world is waiting for you.

Aug 11 New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse in Leo

I’ll have a review for this energy up in a few days.

Aug 12 Mars Retrograde enters Capricorn

The Mars retrograde gets grounded in the soothing energy of Capricorn today. From the unpredictable energy of Aquarius we find ourselves being a bit more…petty. Capricorns enjoy activity that is logical, entertaining, and contributes to their long term goals. Now that you’ve been able to understand how you feel it’s time to do something about it.

Aug 19 Mercury Goes Direct and Jupiter trine Neptune

Whoop whoop Mercury is direct today! All that work that we’ve done on the 6th, 7th, and 8th are ready to be put into action. With support from Jupiter trine Neptune we get intense support to manifesting our dreams through the use of Mars retrograde in Capricorn. My one piece of advice? MOVE SLOW. Make sure that you are really putting in the work to create well developed plans. Also be true to yourself. With all the retrograde energies in Capricorn if you are not being honest this will come back to bite you as we move into the fall.

Aug 23 Sun enters Virgo

FINALLY, all of that energy you wanted to put into being hypercritical and nitpick at yourself and everyone else can come out to play. It’s gleaning season. Time to review what you have planted since March to see what is worth being kept and what needs to go in the compost bin. If you have some type A or Earth sign friends this is their time to shine. Have a real conversation with them (you may have to pay them…Earth signs don’t play with their money) about what you’ve been working on and what your long term goals are. They will help you to see clearly what is and is not working. From there you can put your energy towards what actually serves you. This will help you make progress towards meeting your goals. This is the season of discernment. Don’t worry you’ll weigh it all out in a month as we balance out our doing and resting energy.

Aug 25 Jupiter sequiquadrate Chiron

Aug 26 Full Moon in Pisces

Check back soon for the Full Moon in Pisces reading.

Aug 27 Mars goes Direct

Our second planet to go direct this month. Mercury started off the end of retrograde season shifting our energy from reflection to movement. Mars direct allows us to start making moves on what was reviewed when Mars retrograde moved into Capricorn. The seeds have been planted and Capricorn is here to help us push through the inertia of fear towards the satisfaction of productivity. Take advantage of this when you can because as we move into fall you’ll be feeling the chill vibes as we slow down for the feminine’s trip into the underworld.

There’s a New World Coming: New Moon and Uranus in Taurus

New Moon in Taurus

Today we have a new moon in the sign of Taurus. Taurus is our first Earth sign of the western astrological zodiac. It takes that go go go energy of fiery Aries and grounds it into practices to be implemented. The energy of the cardinal sign Aries is to get us started. It pushes us outside of our winter cocoons to bring us back to life. Taurus is a mutable sign which means that it stabilizes the energy of Aries. It grounds our sense of self into our bodies and world around us.

Taurus is traditionally associated with the planet Venus. They naturally find the beauty in others, themselves, and the world around them. Taurus is associated with the Bull as they can be stubborn, set in their ways, and determined. This allows for them to have tremendous willpower. They set their mind to achieving a goal and will do so without being deterred.

This new moon, there is an energetic shift taking place with Uranus with moving into Taurus. I’ll share more about that later. With that, not everything will be clear right now. Not everyone moves with integrity and truth. There may be people around you who are not working with your best interest at heart. Or you may be deceiving yourself. Regardless, there is deception occurring somewhere. Be mindful of your relationship to money, ancestral wealth, heritage, and CHANGE. If you are resistant to our economy or currency changing this is a really good time to examine why.

  • Are there ideals associated with money or wealth that you are attached to?
  • Does the idea of living in an economy not based on paper currency worry you?
  • Do you diversify your income/saving/investment options or do you save all your money in a mattress?
  •           Do you place the value of your life and resources over others?
  • Do you reject the material realm because it is the “root of all evil?”.

Change is coming to the way that we interact with money and resources. Things will look different and there may be sudden changes to our society especially in terms of electronic finances, technology, and our perception of resources. Things that you trusted are going to be revealed to be shadows of what we thought they were.

Change is coming to the way that we interact with money and resources. Things will look different and there may be sudden changes to our society especially in terms of electronic finances, technology, and our p.png

The new moon in Taurus wants you redefine what you value. It must be based on love. Cosmic, universal love. One where resources are available to all which aligns with the energetic truth that we are in a universe of ABUNDANCE. When we fear and act on the energy of lack, loss, not enough, and distrust we limit our ability to access all that is available to us. It’s time to release outdated paradigms which says we cannot give to others because then there won’t be enough left for me. Or the more insidious paradigm of “we only get what we earn”. Again, these are limiting thoughts because you deserve everything. It is promised to you that you will be cared for.

Move into abundance. You are limitless. You are abundant. You are wealthy. You are Divine! You are courageous! Ground yourself in compassion, empathy, love, nurturing, and self-care. This will be the new foundation of how and why we work. Karen Parker with Human Design for Everyone stated that, “Taurus is a sign of mutation. It is a strange sign that nurtures the seed of new beginnings”.

Taurus calls us to ground our beliefs and practices in what we CAN be. Do you know what you desire? What really makes you feel secure? What your soul purpose is? Take some time to sit down and write this out. If you have not already set SMART goals and objectives write them out. Create a loose plan and then like a Taurus stick to it. Things may be uncomfortable but as Anais Nin said, “the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful then the risk it took to blossom”. We are breaking out of a shell so be gentle with yourself and be gentle with each other.

The Movement like Air

Greetings beloveds,

Since fall is ruled by the element of air, we are looking at movement that brings our attention to our breath. Enchanted Book Reviews: The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden Part II- The Sacred in the Mundane

Enchanted Book Reviews

Greeting beloveds,

Today we return to The Bear and the Nightingale to move further into the mystical components of this book. To read my first part of the review that covers the synopsis of the book click here. I would also like to post a SPOILERS ALERT here because I will be digging deep into the topics of this work and that means using specific details that are vital to the story line.

To begin I want to delve into the mundane acts that are made sacred through the intention behind them. In Arden’s book, we first see this theme when Vasya as a young child, steals a honey cake from Dunya and runs off into the winter forest. She first meets up with her brother and then further into the depths of the woods. We then find her perched on a tree branch offering a bit of her cake to an unseen being stating “I know you sleep when winter comes but couldn’t you wake up? See I have cakes?”. This unbeknownst to us is our first glimpse into Vasya’s world filled with spirits and guardians. The cake is offered to woo something to wake from its slumber to come and see Vasya as she sits by herself.

Vasya, we find, is a peculiar girl according to most in the book. Born of her mother who is supposed to have been the daughter of a witch. Vasyas’ spirit came into this world while her mother’s departed. Vasya as the scrawny awkward girl reminds us of the strangeness associated with otherworldly topics and subjects. We accept them in our lives although we may not fully understand them. Vasya performs in a similar way. Unlike others during this time, Vasya maintains her curiosity and open mindedness to magic and mystery. Maintaining the old ways are not a chore or duty but a form of enchantment and entertainment. More importantly they represent her unseen connection to her mother and those who came before her. Vasya is unique in another way as she can see these spirits and speaks with them whereas for the majority of others they know them only through faith in the stories they have been told of the spirits existence. Eventually we begin to find out more about these guardians of the world around her. From house, water, forest, and stable spirits we see that the world around us is teeming with power and life

It is not until we meet the domovoi that we begin to see the purpose behind feeding the spirits that watch over us. The domovoi is described as “small and squat and brown with a long beard and brilliant eyes,” (86, Arden). The domovoi in Vasyas’ home cleans up soot from the large kitchen stove, clears plates, and mends clothing left out for him. In return, the household members would leave him bread and milk to eat. Once Vasya’s stepmother Anna arrives though clothing is no longer left to be mended and bread and milk are hidden in corners as offerings. For Anna is like Vasya and can see the spirits who watch over their land. Unlike Vasya though, Anna believes that these spirits are demons. She finds solace only in the church where the spirits do not come. As she has been taught to be frightened of these beings she does not see how they assist her family and land to function. She does not see their worth but believes they are evil. Anna represents the power of fear. The domovoi specifically does no harm to her or anyone. He simply assists in caring and protecting the hearth (home). That is his job and he wants nothing for it other than to be fed as a member of the household. Yet, Anna cannot see the purpose of the domovoi because she is blinded by her fear of that which she does not understand. We find though that Anna also is unable to understand herself as she thinks she is cursed to have to see these spirits. She does not see the value in herself and her gifts just as she refuses to see them in the spirits around her. This not only leaves Anna open to corruption but as she does not honor the spirits leaves her home and land unprotected as well.

It is only after an encounter with the frightened and angry Anna that Vasya first realizes how unique she is. Vasya comes to realize that although she and Anna can plainly see the spirits around them that everyone else cannot. Instead of being frightened though Anna simply accepts this as how the world is. She sees that the spirits are harmless and in the case of the domovoi and others, helpful. Anna and Vasya represent the dualism of fear and ignorance versus acceptance and knowledge or wisdom. Vasya is in tune with the world around her. She works with the spirits as she knows that without them her world would not function as it should. This is not because she is young and naïve but because she knows that there is real evil out in the world and it is not the spirits that she interacts with. In fact, she is aware that the spirits such as the domovoi protects her, her loved ones, and family from real evil.

We see then the everyday rituals that Vasya does such as putting out food for the house spirits which maintains the connection between the mundane world and the spiritual world. Not only in leaving out offerings for the spirits but in speaking and engaging them. Vasya treats these spirits as members of the family. She includes them in most of her actions from taking care of the home, the farm animals, learning to ride the horses, fishing, and caring for the land. They are a part of her world and her interactions with them are as normal as breathing. In our current society, maintaining spiritual rituals can be seen as strange, fanatic, or looked down upon. Especially when one practices a form of spirituality outside of Christianity, one’s rituals and practices may be seen as foolish, bizarre, or at the extreme end evil. Yet, as Vasya shows us these ways of interacting with the energetic spirit world can be quite simplistic. Setting out food, lighting candles, incense, prayer, meditation, and libations connect us to the energies around us. The molecules break down combining with our bodies and the energy around us. Yet maintaining these practices is an energy consuming task. It is what we pay for the protection and care that we receive from the guardians who watch over the world around us. It is an energetic exchange. As with all exchanges when one part is not maintained the other diminishes as well.

We see then the transition of the burden of these rituals from community to individual practice when belief systems change. In this case, the village would partake in maintaining the old ways with their offerings and festivals. Yet, as Christianity became the prominent belief system these ways were seen as pagan and put to a stop. As others could not see the spirits it was easier to make this transition than for Vasya who had grown up around them and knew of the guardians purpose. Again, Vasya did not fear these spirits. She was not swayed by the church that did not teach love and acceptance but fear. As the spirits began to starve the village began to decline. Crops not growing as they should, homes burning in fires, children becoming lost in the forest, cold harsh winters. The Church, lead not by the Christian God who loves but by the Russian God of fear who was well known among the old ways, used this as evidence that the old ways must be abandoned as God was punishing them. In fact, it was quite the opposite. The God of Fear was getting exactly what he wanted. Vasya, grown up now, had to carry all the burden of feeding the house spirits because no one else was willing to believe anymore in the old ways that were very real. Right now, the divine feminine, empaths, and caregivers of our society are carrying the burden of balancing the energetic exchange. These beings and energies that had very real consequences when not balanced.

This is symbolic of the imbalance that we are facing in our world today. The mundane aspects of our life are no longer viewed as sacred. We consume without thought of the energy that has been used to create these products, food, and social experiences. One must balance the energy that they receive by feeding those who give to them. This includes the workers who grow, build, and create the materials we consume. So yes, be willing to give an offering of sincere thanks, monetary tips, or other forms of recognition to those in customer service. Energetically feed your caregivers so that they are able to continue to care for you and you must demand the same in exchange from them. It must be an exchange and it must be balanced. When it is not then we experience the negative fallout. Unpleasant social interactions, chronic negative experiences, and scarcity mindset are the consequences of not caring for those that care for us. Of rejecting the sacred that exists in the land, the food, the water, and each other. The further the scales become unbalanced the higher the energetic cost that must be paid.

In the case of this book, the payment was a life. A blood sacrifice became the cost of the offering. Think of how much easier it was simply to give milk and honey or other forms of nourishment to the guardians of the land. It took so little to maintain a balanced relationship between the characters of this book and the world around them but fear and ignorance took them outside of their equilibrium. We saw this when due to the lack of offerings the decline in the crops made it We are now in our world in a space where milk and honey are not enough to balance the energies of our land. Blood is being spilled to the spirits of fear, ignorance, hatred, and destruction. When one does not one to recognize that our world is more complicated than good and bad this hinders us from developing the discernment needed to make wise decisions. To know what will protect and secure our world. We must begin to acknowledge the world around us as a spiritual place. As an energetic place.

If we begin to acknowledge the sacred in everything then we will begin to recognize the importance of life and the need for balance. If we do not equal out this balance then we will see more blood spilled. May we return to the time of offerings, ritual, and practice. May the milk and honey flow so the balance may be restored.
